Sven Thiele

Sven Thiele ( born May 12, 1969 in Merseburg ) is a German wrestler. He was runner-up in 1995 and 1992 to 2008 17 times German champion in free style in the super heavyweight.

Career

Sven Thiele began in 1979 in Merseburg with the rings. As his talent was recognized early on, he was delegated to the Children and Youth Sports School Hall. As a member of the SC Chemie Halle in 1982 Rainer comb his coach, who led him to 1987 in the German and soon in the world class freestyle wrestler in the heavyweight division. His first German heavyweight championship he won in 1992 and defeated while the reigning world champion Andreas Schröder from Jena. After German reunification, he moved first to the KSV Witten 07, but also launched for the AC Bavaria Goldbach, the WCG Halle- Merseburg and the first Luckenwalder Ringer club. For 19 years he struggled in the first German Bundesliga and was until 2008 for the KFC Leipzig in the 1st Bundesliga active.

His debut on the international wrestling mat gave Sven of the European Championship in 1993 in Istanbul. He finished equal 4th place there, as he lost by judges decision in the fight for the bronze medal against the Russians Gennady Schilzow with a score of 0-0.

At the European Championships in Rome in 1994 he finished only 9th place. A year later, he demonstrated his skills at the World Championship in Atlanta and became runner-up. He scoring victories over shoulder Neal wreath of Guam, Feng Aigang from China, a points victory over Zaza Turmanidze from Georgia and lost the final of the U.S. Olympic gold medalist Bruce Baumgartner just 0-1 on points.

In 1996 he became vice European champion in Budapest. In the final he defeated the reigning world champion Mahmut Demir from Turkey.

In the following years he achieved his best results at the European Championships. 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001, he won every time the bronze medal and in 2002 and 2004 respectively, he reached the 4th place. In the Olympics, it never managed to win a medal. Several times he was almost ready, but still lost the decisive battles, which led to the entry into the medals. So he finished 6th, 7th and 9th place in the years 1996, 2000 and 2004. At the World Championships he fared similarly, he scored many finishes among the top 10 wrestlers in the world, but after 1995 no more medal win.

Finally, a prestige success he achieved in the year 2001 with the title at the World Military Championship. A number of other tournaments Sven stood his ground, won some of these tournaments and ended up often among the first three winners. After his victory at the German championships 2008 he finished his first career. In May 2010, Thiele announced that he would take from the season 2010/ 2011 for the ASV Hof in the Ringer - Bundesliga.

Sven Thiele is Elektrotechnikermeister, was during his playing days as a wrestler Sergeant Major of the Bundeswehr and since 2006 honorary coach at the power center of Leipzig. He studied the "Diplom- coach of the DOSB " and then he studied "Sport and Applied Training Science " (BA).
