Swedish national road

A Riksväg (plural Riksvägar ) in Sweden is a national, state road link, which is important for the country's infrastructure. Certain Riksvägar may be part of a European street.

The road network of the Swedish Riksvägar (literally imperial roads, corresponding to about federal highways in Germany ) has a length of nearly 9,000 km, the European roads not included in the calculation. They are since 2010 from Trafikverket, the Swedish road and rail network administration, entertain, in the former rose Vägverkets.

Numbered Riksvägar already existed since 1945; but this included only 14 routes. The most famous Riksväg 1, also Riksettan was called, leading from Helsingborg to Stockholm and now corresponds to sections of the road in many places new trassierten Europe 4. This Riksvägar were marked on a yellow background with black numerals:

  • Riksväg 1 " Riksettan ": Helsingborg Jönköping -Stockholm - Norrköping
  • Riksväg 2 " Rikstvåan ": Trelleborg Svinesundsbron
  • Riksväg 3 " Rikstrean ": Kropp - Hasslarp - Strövelstorp
  • Riksväg 4 " Riksfyran ": Malmö Kristianstad Squid Norrköping
  • Riksväg 5 " Riksfemman ": Gothenburg - Jönköping
  • Riksväg 6 " Rikssexan ": Gothenburg Örebro Södertälje
  • Riksväg 7 " Rikssjuan ": Gothenburg Grums
  • Riksväg 8 " Riksåttan ": Ödeshög - Hallberg
  • Riksväg 9 " Riksnian ": Årjäng - Örebro
  • Riksväg 10 " Rikstian ": Örebro Ludvika - Borlänge Falun Gävle

In 1962, the system is still valid today, marked with white numbers on a blue background, introduced in its fundamentals. The numbers are basically from south to north and from west to east and rising - with overlaps - distributed as follows about the country:

In 1962 the first European roads have been designated by the numbers of the most important for international traffic Riksvägar an E was preceded by ( former numbering after E3, E4, E6, E18 and E75, and later came E14, E66 and E79 added ). As a result, there were repeated changes by renumbering, consolidation or promotion of provincial roads ( Länsvägar ) to imperial roads, on a larger scale in 1985 and 1992 in connection with the fitting of the European road numbering in the international system (where, in Sweden only the numbers of the E4, E6 and E18 remained unchanged). Also, since 1992, there were individual changes over again.

The standard of Riksvägar varies greatly and can be anything from a road with motorway standard (Swedish motorväg ) to a narrow country road mean with oncoming traffic. Newly created Riksvägar should be at least eight feet wide and paved.

Other facts:

  • Öland and Gotland have no Riksvägar.
  • Norrbotten County has a total of 1427 km Riksvägar and therefore the longest road network with Riksvägar in Sweden.
  • The longest Riksväg has the number 26 and connects with Halmstad Mora, length 560 km.
  • The shortest Riksväg has the number 75 and is the Södra Länken - Tunnel in Stockholm, length 9 km.
  • The oldest highway from Stockholm to the south was the medieval Göta landsväg.
