Swiss Book Prize

The Swiss Book Prize is a literary prize, which is awarded by the Association Literary Festival Basel in collaboration with the Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association ( SBVV ) since 2008.

With the Swiss Book Prize, a German -language literary or essayistic work of living in Switzerland authors will be awarded by an independent jury. The award was until 2011, with prize money totaling 60,000 Swiss francs ( 50,000 for the winner and 2,500 each for the nominees shortlisted ) doped. In the year 2012 the amount was reduced to 40,000 Swiss francs. Of these, the winner of 30,000, the other four nominees each receive 2,500 francs.

An extension to other literary categories and on the other national languages ​​is sought.

At the award ceremony on 16 November 2008 at the Buch.08 in Basel, Rolf Lappert was able to prevail with his already nominated for the German Book Prize novel. Adolf Muschg had had on the eve emphasize his work of the nomination list on the grounds that good books are not comparable.

From the award ceremony on 15 November 2009 Ilma Rakusa emerged as the winner.

For the award of five plants were from 69 proposed titles nominated:

  • Melinda Nadj Abonji: Pigeons flying up. Novel, ISBN 978-3-902497-78-9.

The Swiss Book Prize 2010 was awarded Melinda Nadj Abonji. The award ceremony took place during the BuchBasel on November 14, 2010. First there was the possibility of making independent of the decision of the jury voting public ( audience vote).

The 2011 award went to Catalin Dorian Florescu. The award ceremony was held at the Basel Paper on 20 November 2011.

For the award of five plants were from 76 proposed titles nominated:

  • Sibylle Berg: Thank you for life. novel
  • Peter von Matt: The Kalb before Gotthardpost. essays
  • Thomas Meyer: cloudburst whimsical journey into the arms of a floozy. novel

The 2012 award went to Peter von Matt, thus a non- work of fiction was first awarded in the history of the award. The award ceremony took place on November 11, 2012 at BuchBasel, for the first time in the Theater Basel.

  • Henriette Vásárhelyi: immeer. Novel, ISBN 978-3-908777-93-9.

Jens Steiner received the Swiss Book Prize 2013 for his novel carambola. The award ceremony was held at the Theater Basel on 27 October 2013.
