Syria national football team

The Syrian national football team is the national team of Arabic - Syrian Football Association. It is run by coach Nizar Mahrous since 2011 and bears their home games at Abbasidenstadion in Damascus. So far, the national team could not qualify for a World Cup finals. An Asian Championships you participated five times, but never got it on the first round also.

History

The first game of the Syrian national was also the first competitive match: In qualifying for the 1950 World Cup they lost on November 20, 1949 Turkey away with 0:7. The first home game - again in the World Cup qualifiers, this time for 1958 - against Sudan on May 24, 1957 ended 1-1. The Abbasidenstadion (Al- Abbasiyyin ) in Damascus holds 45,000 spectators and acts as the National Stadium, although to be held in other cities official matches.

On July 23, 2011 Syria had to unsubscribe in the Jordanian capital Amman, the World Cup qualifier against Tajikistan because of the unrest in Syria.

Success of the national

Syria and the football World Cup

Syria took ten times so far to a qualification in part, first for the World Cup in 1950, it never could so far not qualify for the World Cup finals. Syria and Asia Cup

For the Continental Cup in Asia, the Syrians (1984 1980 in Kuwait, Singapore, 1988 in Qatar and most recently in 1996 in the Emirates ) were four times at least qualify, but never got beyond the first round. For the first time they took part in 1972 in the qualifying, then you failed to Kuwait.

Syria and the West Asian Championship

At the tournament in the West Asian Football Federation, which took place six times since 2000, Syria reached the finals three times, but had to admit defeat to Iran twice ( 2000: 0-1, 2004: 1:4).
