Szymon Ziółkowski

Szymon Ziółkowski ( born July 1, 1976 in Poznań ) is a Polish hammer thrower and Olympic champion.

For the Games in 1996 in Atlanta Ziółkowski was only tenth, but at the games in Sydney in 2000 he made in his discipline for a sensation and Olympic champion. He was able to confirm at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, where he also won gold this success. At the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003, he was missing through injury and wanted to repeat his success from Sydney at the 2004 Games in Athens, but failed in his third Olympic participation already in the qualification. 2005 at the World Championships in Helsinki, he won the bronze medal, and at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he finished the race in seventh place. At the World Athletics Championships 2009, he won the silver medal behind Primoz Kozmus. After he was in 1998, 2006 and 2010 respectively finished fifth at the European Championships, he reached 2012 in Helsinki in third place and won a medal for the first time.

With 83.38 meters he holds the Polish national record. Previously he was eight times national champion.

Szymon Ziółkowski has a contest weight of 117 kg at a height of 1.92 m.
