Tamara Tyshkevich

Tamara Andrejewna Tyschkewitsch (Russian: Тамара Андреевна Тышкевич, born March 31, 1931 in Vitebsk, † December 27, 1997 in Saint Petersburg ) is a former Russian track and field athlete and Olympic champion, who took for the Soviet Union. At a height of 1.70 m, they had a competition weight of 116 kg.

The first Olympic appearance of the Soviet team at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, the shot put was dominated by the Soviet poking gutters. Galina Sybina won with a new world record of 15.28 m gold. Klavdiia Totschonowa won bronze with 14.50 and Tamara Tyschkewitsch was fourth with 14.42 m. The silver medal went to the West German shot putter Marianne Werner with 14,57 m.

At the European Championships in 1954 won again Galina Sybina ( 15,65 ) before Maria Kuznetsova ( 14,99 ). Tamara Tyschkewitsch ranked as the third representative of the Soviet Union with 14.78 m in third place.

Prior to the 1956 Olympics the world record of Galina Sybina stood at 16.76 m. In Melbourne Tamara Tyschkewitsch won the qualification with 14.41 m in front of Marianne Werner and Galina Sybina. In the finals, which took place as the qualification on 30 November, Galina Sybina improved three times their own Olympic record of Helsinki, the last attempt ended up with 16,53 m. Tamara Tyschkewitsch came in last attempt 16,59 m and won gold before Sybina and Werner ( 15,61 ). The 16.59 m were personal best of Tyschkewitsch and were never surpassed by her.

At the European Championships in 1958 Marianne Werner won with 15.74 before Tamara Tyschkewitsch with 15.54. By 15.53 the Ukrainian Tamara Press was right behind her.

At the championships de Soviet Union reached Tamara Tyschkewitsch 1953-1958 each year a place in the top three, in 1956 and 1957 she was champion before Galina Sybina. In 1960, she was again third behind Tamara Press and Galina Sybina.
