Tasch is a municipality in the district of Visp in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The typical Valais village is located about 6 km north of the tourist region of Zermatt.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Matterhorn or Nikolaital and includes the village of Tasch and the hamlets Zermettjen, Täschberg as well as the hiking area Täschalp.

Tasch is the last place in the Matter before Zermatt. From here the road is closed to private traffic direction Zermatt since 1972 and you have to change to the web. The car can be left behind created in 2006 a large car park in Tasch.

In the so-called Täschgufer ( Gufer = walserdt. History

Tasch in 1302 for the first time as a tech (Latin Pera ) was mentioned. In the 13th century, the nobles of Tasch had their headquarters here, the last heir, Johann Junker, his rights passed on to the family on Hengart before 1400. 1798 was the separation of Tasch and Randa. The northern borders with the Randaërn were regulated according to long-standing disputes until 1841. Ecclesiastical belonged Tasch to Visp to 1423, when it became a separate parish. The church from the 15th century gave way 1939, the new parish.

Economy

The development of mountain farming village to a tourist destination in the 19th century under the influence of Zermatt. 1891 Tasch was connected to the web.
