Tatra K5AR

K5AR is a type designation for a bi-directional articulated railcar of the Czechoslovak tram manufacturer CKD Tatra.

Development

The early 1970s, Egypt was another customer of Tatra trams. Between 1970 and 1973 a total of 200 cars were built. The K5AR was delivered exclusively in the Egyptian capital Cairo. From the car body forth the K5AR was very similar to the K2. On the technical side the engine power was increased from 40 to 44.5 kW, the cars were adapted to the subtropical climate.

In the early 1980s most of the cars retired again, as they were no longer operational due to their bad state of preservation.
