History

The city Taunus stone was formed on October 1, 1971 through the merger of the formerly independent communities Bleidenstadt, cock, Neuhof, Seitzenhahn, Watzhahn and labor. With the merger Taunus stone was given city rights. On 1 July 1972, the municipalities Hambach, Niederlibbach, Orlen and Wingsbach were incorporated into the city Taunus stone.

In 1991, named after the longtime Taunussteiner Mayor Dr. Peter Nicholas Square was inaugurated in the district of cock. He is surrounded by the "Taunus ", the Catholic Church of St. John of Nepomuk center and the new town hall and forms with the bundling of these public functions, the new city center. The "Taunus " was opened in 1989, the church center in 1991, both designed by the Hamburg architect Bernhard Hirche, who also wrote the urban planning concept for the new town center. Mayor Sandro tens ( CDU) was elected on September 22, 2013 on the first ballot with 60.5 % of votes. The turnout was 73.2 %.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a golden lion on a blue background, holding a sign with a red cross on a silver background in its paws. With the golden lion coat of arms recalls the centuries- long rule of the Counts and Princes of Nassau and at the same time takes up the tradition of the coat of arms of Nassau Headquarters labor and communities cock and Seitzenhahn that led a golden lion or lion's head all. The cross is attribute of Saint Ferrutius, the patron saint of the monastery Bleidenstadt. Museum

In 1995, the Museum of the City Taunus stone was set up with tight spaces in Wehen castle. Jewish cemetery in labor
