Tavish Scott

Tavish Scott ( born May 6, 1966 in Inverness ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats.

Life

Scott attended Anderson High School in Lerwick, and Napier University in Edinburgh, which he left with a Bachelor degree in Economics. He then worked for the House of Representatives - Jim Wallace and 1990 was press spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, Scotland. Scott returned to the Shetland Islands and took over the farm of his parents.

Political career

Between 1994 and 1999 he was a member of the Council of the Shetland Islands. For the first time Scott joined the Scottish Parliament elections 1999 to national elections. He stood as a candidate in the constituency of Shetland and was able to achieve the direct mandate with a clear lead over the Labour candidate. He moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament and defended in the following parliamentary elections 2003 2007 and 2011 its mandate.

As of October 2000 Scott took over the position of Deputy Minister for Parliamentary Affairs of his party colleague Iain Smith and gave them to the middle of March 2001 Euan Robson. Between May 2003 and June 2005 Scott was Deputy Minister of Finance, Public Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs. He then took over the office of Transport Minister Nicol Stephen and practiced it out until May 2007. In August, Scott was a candidate to succeed the outgoing Nicol Stephen as chairman of the Scottish Liberals Democrats and was elected with a vote share of 59%. In response to the poor performance of the Liberal Democrats in the general election 2011 Scott resigned as chairman. Willie Rennie was selected as Scott's successor.
