The Magnificent Rider ( Original title: The Glory Guys) is an American Western by Arnold Laven for the production company Levy -Gardner - Laven in 1965 with Tom Tryon, Harve Presnell, Senta Berger and James Caan in the lead roles. Soundtrack and theme song for the film was created by the Italian composer Riz Ortolani. The film is based on the novel " The Dice of God" by Hoffman Birney.
Action
In order to advance his career, the ambitious general McCabe plans with the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, a large-scale campaign against the Cheyenne Indians. Captain Damas Harrod opportuniert violently against the megalomaniac plans of General and predicts a disaster, McCabe should go with the inexperienced recruits in the war. The General puts this as insubordination and Harrod to be sent on a punishment with exactly these young soldiers as vanguard.
At Harrods anger he must now also withdraw from the battle for the favor of the lovely Lou Woddard he discharges exasperated with his arch-rival, former best friend, scouts of the regiment Sol Rogers.
The mission to spy out the Indian country, is a dangerous matter. Harrod and the young soldiers fallen into an ambush.
McCabe disregarded during which the transmitted commands him, does not wait for the targeted reinforcements and shares his troops into two divisions, which are to take the decisive battle against the Cheyenne. However, by his reckless strategy, he inflicted heavy losses. The department carries out himself, is completely wiped out. The second division is fighting for survival.
