The documentary drama starring Sam Neill and Jon Voight in the lead roles is based on the true story around the attack on the flagship of the environmental organization Greenpeace, the Rainbow Warrior ( commanded by Captain Peter Willcox ), on 10 July 1985 in the New Zealand port of Auckland. The ship lay at anchor there to protest later in the exclusion zone around the Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia against the people there are French nuclear tests. The film tracks the investigation of the New Zealand Police ( led by the New Zealand Police Inspector Alan Galbraith ) to investigate what happened to the ship and who was responsible for the attack. In the course of the investigation shows that a command of the French secret service was behind the explosion that took the lives of the Dutch photographer Fernando Pereira Portuguese descent. Equally frightening is the fact that the stop was approved by the French government.
