Thoiras

Thoiras (earlier spelling Toiras, okzitan. Toirac ) is a village in France, located in the department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. The municipality is situated on the river la Salindrenque, which flows east of the village in the Gardon de Saint- Jean, at the foot of the Cévennes mountains at an altitude between 139 m and 169 m and has 441 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Nearby are the towns of Nîmes (56 km) and Ales (23 km).

In Saint -Jean -de- Gardonnenque, now Saint -Jean -du- Gard, which formerly belonged to the castle Thoiras, Marquis de Toiras was posted on March 1, 1585 Jean du Caylar de Saint -Bonnet was born.
