Thomas Clausen (musician)

Thomas Clausen (born 5 October 1949 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musicians ( pianist, keyboardist, composer, arranger ).

Life and work

Thomas Clausen studied at the Copenhagen Academy of Music and became known in the Danish jazz scene in the mid -1970s through his involvement in shooting with staying in Denmark Americans like Jackie McLean / Gary Bartz (1973 ), Dexter Gordon ( More Than You Know, 1975), Eddie Lockjaw Davis ( Swingin 'till the Girls Come Home, 1976), and Frank Rosolino / Bo Stief ( Frank Talks, 1978).

Clausen worked in the 1980s with bassist Chris Minh Doky, trumpeter Jens Winther, Lars Møller and other musicians from the Danish jazz scene. In 1982 he played in the WDR Big Band under the direction of Jiggs Whigham, 1984 Peter Herbolzheimers Rhythm Combination & Brass. In 1985 he was involved in the production of the album Aura by Palle Mikkel Borg and Miles Davis as a member of the Danish Radio Big Band. In 1988, he played on Tomas Franck's first album Bewitched, and the Quartet of Allan Botschinsky ( The Night ).

In 1989, Clausen M. A. Music first solo album ( Piano Music ) and a trio album with Mads Vinding and Alex Riel on. In 1991 he accompanied with his trio vibraphonist Gary Burton on the album Cafe Noir, 1994, trombonist Bob Brookmeyer ( Old Friends ); also created another sensational trio album with Vinding and Riel (Psalms ) for the label Storyville. This year, also, he worked on Karsten Houmarks album Four and played with his band The Jazz Participants ( from Tomas Franck and Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen ) with jazz veterans Roy Haynes.

In 1996 he collaborated with Jesper Thilo ( Jesper Thilo / Ann Farholt Meets Thomas Clausen ). In 1997, he played in a duo with vibraphonist Sereri Pyysalo a duo album Turn Out the Stars, and took with Brazilian musicians on the album Follow the Sun, which he recorded the album Prelude to a Kiss was followed in the same occupation in 2000. In 2001 he worked with Tim Berne and Danish musicians (Open, Coma ). He also appeared 1997/99 in Copenhagen Art Ensemble with Marilyn Mazur. Furthermore Clausen worked with Jesper Lundgaard, Andrea Marcelli, Simon Spang -Hanssen and Hans Ulrik.

Prizes and awards

Clausen 1989 he received the Ben Webster Prize and the 1990 Jasa price. Furthermore, the fanfare Price (1992 ) and the composers price of Danish Society for Jazz, Rock and Folk Composers, he was recognized for.
