Thomas E. Donilon

Thomas E. Donilon ( born May 14, 1955 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) is an American government official and since October 2010, National Security Advisor of the United States under President Barack Obama.

On June 5, 2013 it was announced that Donilon this post in July 2013 to Susan Rice, formerly U.S. ambassador to the UN is handed over.

Training

Donilon graduated from La Salle Academy in Providence. The Catholic University of America awarded him a BA in 1977, and in 1985 he earned a JD at the University of Virginia, where he was also one of the editors of the Virginia Law Review.

Family

His wife, Cathy Russell, with whom he has two children, is head of the rod by Jill Biden. His brother, Mike Donilon is advisor to Vice President Joe Biden.

Career

Between 1993 and 1996, Donilon as Secretary of State for Public Affairs ( Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs ) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs operates. From 1999 to 2005 he worked as a lobbyist for Fannie Mae - a compound that caused a frown as Donilon was appointed to the transition team of the Obama administration, because Fannie Mae had to be rescued by government regulators.

Between his work for Fannie Mae and the Government Office Donilon was a partner in the Washington law firm O'Melveny & Myers, where he had boards of directors advise politically and legally.

Bob Woodward's book "Obama 's Wars " (2010) writes Donilon a prominent role in the formulation of strategy in Afghanistan.
