Thomas Herzog

Thomas Duke ( born August 3, 1941 in Munich) is a German architect and scientist. His services are based on the research and development of structural materials for building envelopes and taking advantage of the prevailing climatic conditions and the sunlight, and new types of buildings as a whole for different uses.

Life

Duke studied in the years 1960 to 1965 and obtained his degree at the Technical University of Munich. In the following years he worked until 1969 when Professor Peter C. of Seidlein. In 1971 he founded his own office. In 1972 he received his doctorate from the University of Rome on the subject of Pneumatic structures.

Duke's academic career began at the University of Stuttgart as a research assistant and lecturer. He became Germany's youngest professor of architecture in 1973 at the University of Kassel, Kassel University now. Further vocations were in 1986 at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt and 1993 at the Technical University of Munich, where he became Professor Emeritus in 2006 and 2007 the honorary title of Emeritus of Excellence received. Guest professorships led him in 2003 at Tsinghua University in Beijing and in the same year he was Graham Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2004 he was a visiting professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Copenhagen. 2007 honorary doctorate from the University of Ferrara, he was awarded.

Since 1982, Duke is working on various research and development projects for private and public clients.
