Thommie Bergman

Thommie Bergman ( born December 10, 1947 in Munkfors ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach, who in his active years from 1964 to 1983 among others for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League and the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association played.

Career

Thommie Bergman began his career as a hockey player with IF Karlskoga / Bofors, for the first team, he was initially active in the Swedish second division from 1964 to 1968. After the rise in the Division 1 he played a year for the team before he ran aground two years for domestic rivals Södertälje SK. In the 1971/72 season the defender for Västra Frölunda IF scored nine goals in 26 games each and nine assists and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. He then received a contract as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings, where he was the first player who had learned the hockey in Europe. For the Red Wings, he was able to win right away and scored in his rookie year, the 1972/73 season, in 75 games 21 points scorer, nine gates. In the following season, he was not so often for the Red Wings on the ice and is for eight games on their farm team Virginia Wings of the American Hockey League. In December 1974, the Swede from Detroit was sold to the Winnipeg Jets, for whom he in competing with the NHL World Hockey Association in 247 games scored 132 points scorer in the following three and a half years.

In March 1978, Bergman returned as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings and was again in the following one and a quarter years a regular place in the NHL. This he lost in the 1979/80 season, in which he was on the ice only 28 times for Detroit, while he took in 14 games for Detroit's new AHL farm team Adirondack Red Wings. For the 1980/81 season the former national player returned to his native Sweden, where he received a contract with his former club Västra Frölunda IF from the Elitserien. He spent the following two years at another former team, Södertälje SK, for which he was active in the now second-class Division 1 during this period. After the rise in the Elitserien 1983 he ended his active career at the age of 33 years. Immediately after the end of his career he took over for the season 1983/84 the Office as the head coach at second division HV 71 Jönköping. From 1985 to 1987, he oversaw the Västra Frölunda HC, for which he was previously accrued twice as a player.

Internationally

For Sweden, Bergman took part in the World Championships in 1971 and 1972 as well as 1976 at the Canada Cup.
