Thyrfing

Thyrfing is a Viking metal band from Sweden.

The band's name comes from the cursed sword Tyrfing from Norse mythology.

History

Joakim Kristensson, Patrik Lindgren and Thomas Väänänen were from 1994 members of a metal band whose name, occupation and musical style changed again and again. Result they produced a solid cast that on drums, Patrik Lindgren on bass and Joakim Kristensson consisted guitars and vocals from Thomas Väänänen, and the band took the name Pantheon. The members came up with the idea to form a new band. After the samples and leisure Kristensson drums and Lindgren played guitar. Together with bassist Kimmy Sjölund and guitarist Peter Löf they founded a new band. After several name changes, they chose the name Thyrfing.

After a few months the band had completed four pieces and took them under his own words " very primitive conditions " ( with a four -track recorder in the rehearsal room, very poor microphones and amplifiers, etc.). The demo recording was Solen svartnar (, The sun turns black ') titled, and the lyrics are about Ragnarok. The recording was made according Thyrfing without serious aims, published in an edition of 100 copies and sent to some Swedish fanzines and sold on underground mailings. While the band Pantheon was still active, Thyrfing has increasingly become a "real band"; the required singer found in Thomas Pantheon. For their next shot she was looking for a proper studio. The recordings were made on the second demo tape Hednaland (, heathland '), which contained four "real" and three instrumental pieces, and was sent svartnar unlike brines to record companies, magazines and distributors worldwide.

In early 1997, the band from the Dutch record label Hammerheart Records was contacted; this would Hednaland publish on MCD, the band, however, was not satisfied with the material and proposed instead the recording of an album. Hammerheart Records agreed to the proposal and adopted Thyrfing under contract. The first half of the year the band spent with samples and writing new pieces as well as some concerts in Stockholm. In July 1997 the band recorded their debut album in the Sunlight studio with the assistance of Tomas Skogsberg of Entombed and Dismember Fred Estby. After the recordings, the band was looking for a new guitarist, mainly for live performances, but also for future recordings. This she found in Vintras, the former guitarist of Funeral Mist. The self-titled debut album, was released in March 1998. While the compositions and samples for their second album, the band began to have doubts as to Vintras matching guitarist; According to the official biography he lacked interest and commitment, which is why he had to leave Thyrfing. Valdr galga was recorded in Studio B of the Abyss Studios with the support of Tommy Tägtgren. For future live performances was Henke Svegsjö of Ancient Winds Thyrfings second guitarist. The album was released in March 1999, a year after the debut.

The record label Grim Rune Productions showed interest in a re-release of the first demo recording brines svartnar and published these in May 1999 in an edition of 300 copies on 7 " -EP. On 23 May 1999, the band played their first gig outside of Sweden to the Black Stage of the Dynamo Open Air She also played on their first tour, Summer Clash II, along with Six Feet Under, Vader, Enslaved, Cryptopsy and Nile; in advance of the tour published Hammerheart Records' subsidiary Unveiling the Wicked CD with both demo recordings under the title Hednaland in a limited edition of 2000 copies. After the tour, the band paused, in order to regain the energy needed for the upcoming album.

2000 saw the band again in Studio B, their third album, primal power on. Before its release, she toured with the under contract also Hammerheart Records bands Primordial and Shadowbreed through the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In August 2000 the album was released.

In autumn 2001, the band with the famous Daniel Berg beach recorded the album Vansinnesvisor in the Dug -Out Studios. It was released in July of the following year and helped Thryfing to something greater awareness. Finally, in 2005 their album was released Farsotstider.

In March 2007, singer and guitarist Henrik Thomas Väänänen Svegsjö left due to lack of motivation the band. Väänänen was replaced by ex- Naglfar vocalist Jens Rydén. The second guitar position was not filled for the time being. 2008 Thyrfing played alongside Finntroll, Primordial, Eluveitie, Equilibrium, Catamenia, Månegarm, Enslaved, freezing rain and Dyrathor some concerts as a special guest on the Heidenfest tour in Germany. Furthermore occurred Thyrfing 2009 in Lichtenfels on the Ragnarök Festival, as well as on the Party San Open Air, on.

2013 the latest album De ödeslösa was published. Together with Alestorm, Arkona, Ex Deo, Wolfchant and Bornholm in 2013 they went to the Paganfest Europe tour.
