Tieto Oyj ( until April 2009 TietoEnator ) is based in IT and Product Engineering Services IT services company. With nearly 18,000 employees in nearly 30 countries, Tieto is one of the largest IT service providers in Europe. Tieto is based in Helsinki, Finland. Tieto Corporation is listed on the Nordic Exchange OMX Helsinki 25 and on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

The company provides services in the following areas: automotive, financial services, telecommunications and media, health, forestry, energy, manufacturing and retail and logistics.

The number of employees was 18 123 end of December 2011. The staff allocated to the following countries: 30 % in Finland, 17% in Sweden, 11 % in the Czech Republic, 9 % in India, 8 % in China, 7% in Poland, 5% in Germany and the remaining 13 % in the other countries.

History

Foundation and History

The company was founded in 1968 in Espoo, Finland under the name Tietotehdas Oy. In the first years Tietotehdas pursued his activities mainly in computer centers. IT systems were mainly developed and maintained for the Union Bank of Finland and their customers, as well as for forest industry company.

The company's customer base grew in the 1970s and Midi computers were introduced alongside the existing mainframes. In addition to services and software for mainframe computers and the development of IT systems was a central part of the activities of Tietotehdas. The customers represent diverse industries and business activities were organized. In the 1990s, the company grew rapidly through a series of acquisitions, mergers and strategic alliances. The company name was changed to TT Tieto Tieto in 1995 and 1998. 1996, the company strengthened its activities in the telecommunications sector significantly through the acquisition of Avancer. 1999 merger Tieto and Enator to TietoEnator.

In the 2000s, the globalized IT industry and Tieto increased its international business. The offshore production began in 2004. Change of president and CEO in 2011

After Kimmo Alkio was appointed in July, he took over the position on November 1, and stepped down from the Board at the same time.

Environmental achievements

  • Tieto's volume increased sustainable IT services and CO2 reductions of customer service ( 168 481 tonnes of CO2), far exceeding its own CO2 emissions ( 45 582 tonnes of CO2).
  • In May 2011, a new data center in Tieto Finland won the internationally renowned "Green Enterprise IT " ( GEIT ) Award. The recognition of the U.S. Uptime Institute landed in the "Beyond the Data Centre " category.
  • In June 2011, Tieto has been awarded the highest marks ( 973 of 1000 ) in the " TCO Development 's Green IT Audit".
  • In October 2011, Tieto was in the " Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index " (96 points) and in the " Carbon Performance Leadership Index " added (performance band- A) of the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Social gains

  • Towards the end of 2011, a new supplier code of conduct for the current Code of Conduct was created. The Supplier Code of Conduct aims to tighten control over suppliers and partners in relation to corruption prevention and strengthening of human and labor rights.
