Timor-Leste at the 2004 Summer Olympics

East Timor took at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens for the first time in the Olympic Summer Games in part. Previously East Timorese athletes had participated as Independent Olympic Participants at the Summer Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney. The delegation included two athletes and four officials. Flag bearer at the opening ceremony was Agueda Amaral.

Athletics

  • Women: Agueda Amaral (Marathon ): Amaral came to 3:18:25 as Penultimate at number 65 to the finish.
  • Men: Gil da Cruz Trindade (Marathon ): Trindade was after five kilometers two minutes away from the leaders, but had to retire between the 20 -kilometer checkpoint and half the distance. At this time he dropped back to last place twelve minutes behind the next runner.
