TofaÅŸ

The carmaker Tofaş (from " Türk Anonim Otomobil Fabrikası Şirket ") was in 1968 by Vehbi Koç as a joint venture of Koç Holding and Fiat SpA founded. The two partners each hold about one-third of the shares.

The foundation stone for the factory in Bursa Tofaş took place on April 4, 1969, and on February 12, 1971, she was inaugurated. The plant was originally designed for an annual production of 20,000 vehicles, the workforce numbered 1,000 people initially. In the years 2011 and 2012, about 300,000 or 250,000 cars per year were produced in persistently fluctuating load between 80 % and 6 0 %, of which two-thirds were light commercial vehicles and 60 % were exported.

Fiat - licensed production

Tofaş made ​​from the outset cars of the Italian car manufacturer Fiat under license. The first model was a replica of the Fiat 124, which was built as the Tofaş Serçe to 1994. Later, the Fiat 131 as Şahin ( base model ), Kartal ( station wagon) and Dogan ( luxury version ) was produced under license. A revised version of the Şahin is now produced in Ethiopia as DOCC 1600 cc at Holland Car.

Elimination of the brand Tofaş

Meanwhile, no models are more distributed than Tofaş. For Fiat Siena and Fiat Marea were manufactured and sold as such. The production of Fiat Palio and Fiat Albea ended in 2011, and it remained Fiat Linea and Fiat Doblò.

Research and Development

In 1994, Tofaş founded a center for research and development, a vehicle for Fiat and PSA and later a new Fiat Doblò constructed around the year 2006, which also came as Opel and Vauxhall in the sale. For General Motors, it was a new generation of the combo. The other construction came as Peugeot Bipper, Citroen Nemo and Fiat Fiorino new in the trade. Both designs were awarded the Van of the Year.

Commitment

The company is involved in motorsports by Fiat Motorsports Turkey or the Tofaş Rally and supports projects in the promotion of youth sports (basketball, table tennis, volleyball ).

The factory is since November 1998 certified according to ISO 14001 ( Environmental Policy ) and was able to obtain an extension of this certification in January 2002. To a lesser extent Tofaş is also sold in Germany through a sales agent in Frankfurt.
