Tom Held

Thomas " Tom" F. Held ( born August 31, 1889 in Vienna, Austria, † 13 March 1962 in Hollywood, California ) was a native of Austria American assistant director and editor of two times for the Academy Award for Best Editing was nominated.

Life

Hero, who immigrated in 1896 from Austria to the U.S., his career of directors Victor Heerman and Marshall Neilan with Lewis Stone, Marjorie Daw and Jane Novak started in the film industry in Hollywood in 1920 as an assistant director with the silent film drama The River's End in the leading roles. His first work as an editor was directed by Jack Conway and Sam Wood Musical film They Learned About Women (1930 ) with Joe Schenck, Gus Van and Bessie Love.

At the Academy Awards 1939 hero was equal nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Editing: Firstly, for the staged by Julien Duvivier biopic The Great Waltz ( The Great Waltz, 1938) about the life of Johann Strauss with Luise Rainer, Fernand Gravet and Miliza Korjus, the other for the adventure film the test pilot ( test pilot, 1938) by Victor Fleming Clark Gable, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy. The two films were his last works as an editor, before he finally came in 1939 as a second assistant editor in the musical film The Wizard of Oz ( The Wizard of Oz, 1939) in appearance.
