Tomas Van Den Spiegel

Tomas Van Den Spiegel (* July 10, 1978 in Ghent ) is a Belgian former professional basketball player. His position was that of the center.

Career

Tomas Van Den Spiegel began his career at Okapi from Aalst. In 1997, he joined the Belgian giants Sunair Oostende with whom he celebrated two championships and as many Cup wins. After the Double under the name Telindus 2001, he moved to Fortitude from the Italian city of Bologna, but not initially put him so that he initially returned for the rest of the season 2001 /02 to Ostend, where his second championship celebrated with the club. From the following season he was then an integral part of the squad of Skipper, the former sponsors name of Fortitude Bologna. Having had a skipper in the ULEB Euro League 2003 /04 reached the final and lost much against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Van Den Spiegel joined Lottomatica Virtus Roma to within Italy. With the Roman club, however, he could no special successes celebrated and was delivered in February 2006 at CSKA Moscow, who won the final against defending champions Maccabi Tel Aviv with Van Den mirror next to the domestic double in the ULEB Euro League 2005 /06. In the following season 2006/ 07 he won with the Muscovites again a domestic double, but lost as defending the finals of ULEB Euro Cup 2006/ 07 against Panathinaikos Athens.

2007 joined Van Den Spiegel for Prokom Trefl Polish champion, who was then still located in Sopot. After the club in the ULEB Euro League in 2007 / 08, failed again early despite some strong performances by Van Den Spiegel, who was awarded as the " MVP " of a preliminary round match day, it was brought back again from CSKA Moscow and was with the club next to the national championship in the final of Europe's most important club competition again Maccabi Tel Aviv beat. The following season he joined Asowmasch in Mariupol Ukraine, who had next to Van Den Spiegel also committed to the Euro League top scorer Marc Salyers and thereby be taken over financially. So Van Den Spiegel could switch to Real Madrid in the ACB league in December 2008. With the traditional spoiled by success club from the Spanish capital, he reached, however, in the following two seasons, only third in the national championships and two final defeats in the national cup competition " Copa del Rey ". In the highest European club competition ULEB Euro League, lagged behind the national rivals FC Barcelona each after switching off in the quarter-final play-offs, which also claimed the victory in the direct play- off tie the Euro League 2010 won.

After an injury -plagued season in 2009/10 Van Den Spiegel received the 2010/11 season a new contract in Madrid and was instead committed after start of the season by Armani Jeans in Milan and returned once again in the Italian Lega Basket Serie A back. The temporary contract was not renewed in January 2011 after the early exit in the ULEB Euro Cup 2010/ 11 and lack of lucrative offers Van Den Spiegel returned to his home country. In the summer of 2011, he then took with the Belgian national team for the first time in a final round, after they had previously survived successfully in the qualification for the first time after almost 20 years. In the European Championship finals in 2011 in Lithuania without their top player Axel Hervelle but the choice retired after five preliminary round defeats prematurely. With Telenet Oostende, the new sponsors name of his former club from Ostend, Van Den Spiegel won in the following season, 2011/12 once again the Belgian Championship, before he ended his career.
