Tools of the Trade

Occupation

Tools of the Trade is an EP of the British extreme metal band Carcass. It was published in June 1992 by Earache Records and released during the current Gods of Grind tour to the waiting time between the 1991 album Necroticism for fans of the group - to bridge the Descanting Insalubrious and the 1993 follow-up album Heartwork.

The four pieces of the EP were within the scope of the recordings to Necroticism - added Descanting the Insalubrious. The title song was previously unreleased, Incarnated Solvent Abuse comes from the previous studio album and the other two songs are new recordings of older songs of the group. Pyosisified ( Rotten to the Gore ) comes from the debut album Reek of Putrefaction and Hepatic Tissue Fermentation II is a new recording of a song that was recorded for the 1989 Carcass published compilation Pathological. About the title song, a music video was shot. Jason Birch Meier of Allmusic sees the pieces of the EP in the tradition of Necroticism. Carcass was developing with the new recordings further from Grindcore away towards more structured pieces with tempo changes rather than blast beats, so that the EP is the link between Necroticism and the melodic Heartwork. Because of its brevity it is a real alternative to the epic length of 1991's studio album.

The original version of the EP is not available anymore, the songs were included on several re-releases of the band as bonus tracks, as on the 2003 version of Necroticism and on the 1996, first published in Best of Wake Up and Smell the ... Carcass.
