Tortolì

Tortoli is a city on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia. It has 10,833 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) and an area of ​​39.97 km ². The height above sea level is 13 m.

Geography

Tortoli is the capital of the province of Ogliastra. In the suburb of Arbatax is a harbor. Near the town is one of the four airports of Sardinia. The city is dominated by tourism. This region of Sardinia is known for the considered particularly beautiful shores and beaches with very clear seawater.

Tortoli has a station on the narrow gauge railway line Manda -Arbatax, which is served in the summer months from Trenino Verde.

History

Among the attractions of the city, the church of Sant Andrea, once a cathedral is, in the Baroque style. The first church on this site came from the 6th century. Another attraction is the watchtower San Gemiliano from the 16th century.
