Trèves, Gard

Treves is a commune with 113 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the same canton and municipal association Communauté de communes de l' Aigoual.

Geography

Treves is located in the west of the department in the Cevennes National Park on the edge of the Causse Noir in the valley of Trevezel, a tributary of the Dourbie, 65 kilometers north- west of Montpellier, 25 kilometers southeast of Millau, 16 kilometers west of Mont Aigoual, between the neighboring communities Dourbies in the southeast, Causse- Bégon in the southwest and Lanuéjols in the north.

History

From the Middle Ages to 1790 Treves belonged to Viguerie of Le Vigan and Meyrueis. In the census of 1384 Treves was counted along with the 7.4 km further west in the municipality Revens. Data from 1435 suggest that 1384 (literally " hearth fire " ), did not live more than three Feux, three families in Treves.

Coat of arms

Since 1694, the coat of arms of the town is blue with a horizontal golden ribbon in the middle, and three upright silver axes, two of which are located at the tip of the top and. In the heraldic color, the metallic colors are gold and silver in yellow and white.

Attractions

The old bridge of Treves was built in the 16th or 17th century on the ruins of an older bridge. At its parapet is a cross of the 17th century. The bridge is part of the municipality and was registered in 1931 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques (historical monuments ).

The prehistoric cave Le Pas -de- JOULIE located partly in the municipality. It shows traces of settlement dating from the Neolithic period and a necropolis from the Chalcolithic period. It is located in state-owned and has been classified as a monument historique in 1953.
