Turin–Modane railway

The railway line Turin - Modane is an international railway line that connects the major Italian city of Turin with France. They crossed the Alps with the Frejus Tunnel, the oldest Alpine tunnels.

The course comprises two parts: a valley section between Turin and Bussoleno, built in 1854 as part of the link Turin - Susa, and the gradient -rich mountain range between Bussoleno and Modane, opened in 1871.

The line was electrified in 1912 and 1920 with three-phase alternating current, in 1961 it was changed after 3 kV DC.

Since the timetable change on December 9, 2012 operating on the route no international passenger trains more. The Italian railway company Trenitalia offers only to Bardonecchia, the regional train line 3 of the Turin SFM. It is still planned for the medium to build a new base tunnel of 52 kilometers for long haul, which is highly controversial.
