The Uruguayan peso (ISO-4217 code: UYU) is the currency of Uruguay. One peso is divided into 100 centésimos. In circulation are coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 pesos, as well as banknotes in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 pesos.

The 1- peso coin is similar to the 10 - euro cent coin, but has a value of less than 4 cents.

The current peso replaced on 1 March 1993 1,000 Uruguayan New Peso ( ISO 4217 UYN ). The New Peso turn, had replaced in November 1973 the old peso in exchange ratio 1.000 to 1.
