Ustyuzhna
Ustjuschna (Russian Устюжна ) is a city in North-West Russia. It is located in the Vologda Oblast and has 9501 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 230 km west of the Oblasthauptstadt Vologda at the opening into the Rybinsk Reservoir of the Volga Mologa.
Ustjuschna is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
The place was first mentioned in 1252 in the Uglich chronicle as Ustjug - Schelesny and received city rights in 1738. The additional Schelesny (in various forms, from Russian scheleso for iron, based on the bog iron deposits in the area ) was omitted since the 19th century.
