Valaská

Valaská (Hungarian [ Garam ] Olaszka - to 1882 Valaszka ) is a large municipality in Brezno Okres in central Slovakia.

It lies in the region Horehronie the river Hron (Gran ) on the southern slopes of the Low Tatras, this is a part of the community extends into Slovak Ore Mountains. With its 3,850 inhabitants, it is the third largest municipality in the Okres Brezno Brezno and after Podbrezová, both neighboring communities. Here, in the municipality opens Čierny Hron rivers and Bystrianka ( in part Piesok municipality ) in the Hron. The city of Brezno, located 6 km to the east and the regional capital Banská Bystrica 36 km to the west.

Valaská was first mentioned in 1470. The name refers to the Wallachian colonization.

In Valaská ( district Chvatimech ) today begins the narrow-gauge railway Gran Black ( Čiernohronská železnica ) to Čierny Balog.
