VÃ¥lerenga Ishockey

Vålerenga Ishockey is a Norwegian ice hockey club from Oslo, founded in 1913 as belonging to the Vålerenga IF. The home games are played in the club Jordal AMFI, which was built for the Olympic Winter Games 1952. Current coach is former player Espen Knutsen.

History

In the 1940s, the Department of Vålerenga IF Hockey was founded, the first recorded primarily at youth level successes. 1947 won the juniors of the club, the Norwegian Championships and established themselves in the next ten years at the head of the table. Between 1956 and 1961, the young players won five more titles. This laid the foundation for a successful men's team was set, the used the newly built Jordal Amfi as home ground and quickly reached the top division in Norway. In 1960 the club won his first Norwegian championship and dominated the Norwegian hockey in the 1960s. Earlier, in the 1950s, another club from Oslo, the Gamlebyen IF, dominated the Norwegian Men's Ice Hockey. This role took over in the wake of Vålerenga IF, under the leadership of Tor Gundersen, in 1960 won the Golden Puck.

In the following decades, the club won a number of league titles, making it one of the most successful club teams of Norway.

During the lockout in the National Hockey League Chris Mason and Scott Hartnell played for the club. Other former players of the club are known Serge Boisvert, Johan Åkerman and Sergei Puschkow. Patrick Thoresen and Mats Zuccarello Aasen played as a junior for Vålerenga.
