Valeri Viktorovich Bortschin (Russian Валерий Викторович Борчин, English transcription Valeriy Borchin, . Born September 11, 1986 in Powodimowo, rayon Dubinki, Mordvinian ASSR, USSR ) is a Russian mountaineers and Olympic champion from the nationality of the Ersja - Mordvins.

At the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 2006, he won silver in the 20 km walk. In 2008, he increased his personal best to 1:17:55 h over 20km and won at the Olympic Games in Beijing over this distance. The victory was overshadowed by doping rumors, as three Russian mountaineers had been blocked due to doping shortly before the games and Bortschin itself had been blocked due to abuse of ephedrine in 2005 for one year.

At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009, he won his next international title. In a time of 1:18:41 hours, he referred more than 20 kilometers from the Chinese player Wang Hao and the Mexican Eder Sánchez to the places. At the World Athletics Championships 2011 in Daegu, he was able to defend his title over 20 km.

Valeri Bortschin is 1,78 m tall and weighs 63 kg. He lives in Mordovia and belongs to the Russian army.
