Vantoux-et-Longevelle

Vantoux -et- Longevelle is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vantoux -et- Longevelle situated at an altitude of 230 m above sea level, 4 km north-east of Gy and about 26 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in a depression on the northern edge of the Monts de Gy, on the eastern edge of the plain of Gy.

The area of ​​9.67 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. The southern part of the municipality is occupied by a broad trough, which opens west to the level of Gy. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes. For drainage of the village stream, which joins at Vellefrey with the Morte provides. To the southeast the terrain gradually rises to the Vorhöhen the Monts de Gy, which consist predominantly of Cretaceous sediments. Here the highest elevation of Vantoux -et- Longevelle is achieved with 273 m. To the northwest, the municipality's area extends into only weakly in relief, mostly forested landscape of the Petits Bois de Gy and the Bois de Vantoux (up to 260 m), which are composed of Tertiary deposits. This community is part of the catchment area of ​​the Petite Morte.

The double municipality consists of the villages of Vantoux (230 m) in a trough at the edge of the Monts de Gy and Longevelle (225 m) at the eastern edge of the Bois de Petits Gy. Neighboring communities of Vantoux -et- Longevelle are La Chapelle -Saint- Quillain and Étrelles -et -la- Montbleuse in the north, Villers- Chemin -et -Mont- lès- Étrelles and Velleclaire in the east, Bucey -lès- Gy in the south and Vellefrey -et- Vellefrange in the West.

History

Excavations that were started in 2008, have revealed that the municipality of Vantoux -et- Longevelle was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Various tools and pottery fragments and remains of a kiln were discovered from the Neolithic period.

In the Middle Ages Vantoux and Longevelle belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. While the local rule of Vantoux held the gentlemen of Gray and the archbishops of Besançon, was Longevelle to rule Oiselay. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1806 merged Vantoux and Longevelle to today's double municipality. Today Vantoux -et- Longevelle is a member of the 20 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy. The municipality does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Bucey -lès- Gy.

Attractions

The Mairie ( Municipal House ) of Vantoux was built in 1873. Before that, there is a fountain with the statue of Jeanne d' Arc. Also worth seeing is the Fontaine Xérès, a round fountain with a large statue in the lower part of the village. The Calvaire is from 1724.

Population

With 156 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vantoux -et- Longevelle is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 303 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Vantoux -et- Longevelle was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes, but is easily accessible from the main road D474 which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul. Further road links exist with Velleclaire, La Chapelle -Saint- Quillain and Vellefrey.
