Vaux-devant-Damloup

Vaux- devant- Damloup is a commune with no inhabitants in the Meuse in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality of Vaux- devant- Damloup situated about ten kilometers north-east of Verdun.

History

In World War Vaux was completely destroyed due to its location in the immediate vicinity of the fort Vaux and Douaumont in the Battle of Verdun in 1916. Vaux is one of the nine villages destroyed (Beaumont, Bezonvaux, Cumières, Douaumont, Fleury, Haumont, Louvemont, Orne and Vaux- devant- Damloup ), which were not built at the same place again. The returning residents built the place a few meters south to New, also again with a church Saint- Loup, which dates from 1928.
