Luzy-Saint-Martin

Luzy -Saint -Martin is a commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meuse in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Verdun and the Canton Stenay.

Geography

Luzy -Saint -Martin is located on the left bank of the Meuse in the Argonne between cities Stenay and Mouzon.

  • Church of St. Martin with two paintings from the 18th century
  • The German Memorial to Fallen on the Grand Truche, reminiscent of the battle of August 27, 1914 in the First World War, the German army tried to to exceed the Meuse.
  • A memorial in the form of a rotunda was built by Germans on the edge. It is about a hundred meters from the German Soldier's Memorial Cemetery removed. Originally there were the graves of 82 French and 118 German soldiers killed, which were salvaged from the nearby battlefield. Later, the bodies were reburied; they now rest on the central military cemeteries of Brieulles -sur -Meuse.
