Veľký Kamenec

Velky Kamenec ( until 1948 slovak " Velky Kevežd "; Hungarian Nagykövesd ) is a municipality in the southeast Slovakia, with 799 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). Administratively it belongs to the Okres Trebišov, which is a part of the district Košice kraj. According to Census 2001 (848 inhabitants) is the place predominantly Magyar ( 88.7 %), with a Slovak minority ( 10%).

Geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the East Slovak Lowland Hills at the foothills of the Zemplínske. The center is located at the altitude of 124 m nm This region is also known as Medzibodrožie (Hungarian Bodrogköz ), the north-west of the village flows here. Velky Kamenec is located 17 km from Kráľovský Chlmec, 16 kilometers from the Hungarian Sátoraljaújhely and 43 kilometers from Trebišov.

South of the town is on the river VeLka Krčava a road border crossing to the Hungarian community Pácin.

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1247. The castle was built shortly after the Mongol invasion in 1241. The Church of St. Joseph is demonstrated for the first time in the 14th century. In the 14th and 16th centuries the town developed as a market town, but fell socially after this period. In 1672 the castle was demolished.

In 1828 the town had 105 houses and 772 inhabitants, 1900 even 1229. The main sources of income were agriculture and viticulture.

Until 1919 part of which is in the county Semplin place the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938-45 he was on the basis of the First Vienna Award again in Hungary. In 1948 the place name ( Koves = " stony " ) changed from national political reasons in a slowakisierten name ( kameň = " stone ").
