Velký Osek

Velky Osek ( German United Wossek ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers north of the city of Kolin and belongs to Okres Kolin.

Geography

Velky Osek is located southeast of the junction of the Cidlina into the Elbe at the confluence of the streams Bačovka and Sendražický creek on the East Bohemian panel. To the west lies in the floodplain of the declared nature reserve floodplain " Libický luh ", in the southwest, the nature reserve Tonice - Bezedná connects.

Two and a half kilometers north of the village is bypassed by the D 11/Europastraße Highway 67, there is exit 42 " Poděbrady -východ ". By Velky Osek leads the Elbe Valley Railway Kolin - Decin, of their branches in a large Wendeschleife the railway line to Trutnov or Hradec Králové from. South-east is the site of the TPCA.

History

The first written mention of Osek took place in 1228, when the village was, together with Libice nad Cidlinou, rabbit fur, Opolany, Odřepsy and Oldříš the Benedictine monastery of St. George at Prague Castle. The village was built on the edge of a swamp formed by several tributaries of the Elbe. 1366 sold the abbess Elisabeth the desolate courtyard Libice including jurisdiction over the villages Libice, Opolany, Oldříš and Osík, but still remained of monastic property, to Ješek of Všechlapy. Emperor Sigismund withdrew to the monastery in 1437 in exchange for Potštýn the Libicer Sprengel and left this as part of a total of 14 villages in Poděbrady to Georg von Podiebrad as thanks for work merits.
