Venezuelan Professional Baseball League

The League Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional is the highest professional baseball league in Venezuela.

The champion will participate as a representative of Venezuela to the series del Caribe.

Game Mode

8 teams play a first round league with 63 games per team, from October to December in the league. The 5 highest ranked teams play in January in another league round of 16 games per team and identify the participants in the final series. This then play in a best-of -seven mode for the championship.

History

There is no exact and official version of how and when baseball has come to Venezuela and was presented to the Venezuelans. However, historically confirmed that during the last decade of the 19th century Venezuelan students brought the sport from the USA.

The organized baseball in Venezuela developed in the early 20th century in the region of Maracaibo, also by Cuban and American influence, a boom with at times up to 30 teams, played in 10 different built for baseball stadiums.

In 1938 the first World Championship in baseball took place in England, from 1939 to 1943 in Cuba and Venezuela in 1940 also participated with their national team. Venezuela was with his second participation in 1941 even world champions. This triggered a new boom in their own country. 1944 and 1945 Venezuela repeated his success and was again twice world champion.

The popularity of the sport and the international success led to the founding of the League Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional December 27, 1945 The founding team were:.
