Věžnice (Jihlava District)

Věžnice ( German Wieznitz, 1939-1945 Wesenz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located ten kilometers south of Polná and belongs to Okres Jihlava.

Geography

Věžnice is located in the west of the creek Arnolecké hory Jamenský Potok, the ( 627 m) rises east of the village on Kopeček. To the north rises the Skalek (626 m), in the southeastern Řehořovský vrch ( Rain Mountain, 644 m) and in the south of Pahorek (607 m). By Věžnice leads the motorway D1 / E 50 / E 65, the next exit is Velky Beranov.

Neighboring towns are Nadějov, Arnolec and Jersín in the northeast, Meziříčko in the east, and Řehořov Kamenička to the southeast, and Kamenice Bítovčice in the south, Vysoke Studnice the southwest, Kozlov in the west and Rybné in the northwest.

History

It is believed that Věžnice has been founded in the 13th century. The first written mention of the village took place in 1539.

After the abolition of patrimonial Věžnice formed in 1850 a municipality in the district of Jihlava. Between 1949 and 1960 it belonged to Okres Jihlava - okolí and since 1961 back to Okres Jihlava. Between 1995 and 1998, four times in the contest Věžnice Village of the Year and was a 1998 winner in the South Moravian Region.
