Vico, Corse-du-Sud
Vico ( Corsican: Vicu ) is a commune with 850 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corse- du- Sud in the Corsica region.
Geography
Vico is the capital of the hilly region Cruzzini. Villages are next to Vico Chigliani, Nesa and Appriciani.
History
The once-fortified Vico was in 1459 the scene of a massacre of the Genoese governor at the Spinola family Leca. The place served as the 16th century the bishops of Sagone as a residence. The monastery was formed in 1481 under Bishop Casanelli d'Istria in the 19th century, its present shape.
