Victorian Institute of Sport
The Victorian Institute of Sport, also briefly VIS is funded by the Victorian Government institution for the promotion and support of elite athletes. As a trust company, the Institute was founded in 1990 and is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Sport. The headquarters of the VIS is located in the Olympic Park in Melbourne, formerly known as the Glasshouse known. Here at the Summer Olympic Games in 1956 were held swimming competitions.
About 400 athletes are looked after here and maintain the support of coaches, sports doctors, nutritionists and psychologists.
Among other things, football, bowls, Canoeing, Cycling, Diving, Horse Riding, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rowing, sailing, swimming, tennis, track and field, triathlon, water polo, weightlifting and winter sports are offered.
