Villars -sous- Écot is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villars -sous- Écot is located on 355 m, about 12 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northern French Jura, in a valley widening of the Ruisseau du Bié, south of Doubstals.

The area of ​​11:48 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the valley of the Ruisseau du Bié, which provides for drainage to the northwest along the Doubs. History

Already in 1177 the village church was first mentioned. In the Middle Ages Villars -sous- Écot belonged to the rule Neuchâtel. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Villars -sous- Écot is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Trois Cantons.

Population

With 374 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Villars -sous- Écot one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 289 persons were still counted ), a striking population growth was recorded especially during the 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure
