Vittorio Chierroni

Vittorio Chierroni ( born May 26, 1917 in Abetone, † unknown) is an Italian former Alpine skier. During his more than 20 -year sporting career in national and international races, he celebrated a number of significant successes. Overall Chierroni won ten Italian league title and took in the later canceled World Cup 1941 title in the slalom. Together with Zeno Colò and Celina Seghi he formed the successful trio of musketeers from Abetone.

Biography

Chierronis career began in 1934 at the international departure on Monte Canin as he drove at the age of 16 years to fourth place and that was the best Italians. The following year, he confirmed this performance by winning the Italian championship in the combination and in the slalom.

In February 1936 he took part in Garmisch -Partenkirchen at the Olympic Winter Games. In the inaugural combination there he still stood after the downhill race in twelfth position, but fell back to 18th in the slalom. When two weeks later carried out in Innsbruck World Cup, he left in downhill skiing.

In his second World Cup in Chamonix in February 1937, he finished sixth in both the downhill and in the combination. In the winter of 1937/38, won Chierroni significant victories in the downhill race in Megeve, Chamonix and the Furggen, but when discharged in the Swiss Engelberg World Cup, he remained in the lower ranks. At the World Cup 1939 in Zakopane he repeated sixth place in downhill skiing.

He celebrated his greatest sporting success in February 1941. When discharged in Cortina d' Ampezzo World Cup he became at the same time the German Albert Pfeifer World Champion in slalom, got also in the combination of the bronze medal and finished fourth departure. After the Second World War, the International Ski Federation (FIS ) World Cup this explained during a conference in 1946 at the request of the Ski Association of the United States, Austria and Belgium subsequently invalidated, since many nations due to the political circumstances could not attend. All medals lost by decision of the FIS their official status and are no longer counted.

Chierroni took off again in 1947 on ski racing part, took on the descent a total of ten national championship titles and drove the Lauberhorn race in downhill, slalom and combination of each to seventh place. The following season he won in Chamonix at the legendary Arlberg - Kandahar race the slalom and took in St. Moritz for a second time at the Olympic Winter Games, where he finished third in the combined slalom. In 1950, he won again the giant slalom 3 Tre.

After ending his playing career, he organized for the ski club of his hometown Abetone several years the race for the Coppa Nebrun.
