Voitto Hellstén

Voitto Hellsten ( Voitto Valdemar Hellsten; * February 15, 1932 in Pertteli, † December 7, 1998 in Turku ) was a Finnish sprinter.

Career

1952 joined Voitto Hellsten at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in three disciplines. In the 100 -meter run, he left in the run, and in the 200 -meter run, he reached the quarter-finals. In the 4 x 100 - meter relay of the competition was finished after the lead for the Finnish team.

As a result Voitto started Hellsten at international championships in the 400 -meter run. At the European Athletics Championships in Berne in 1954 he ran in the final 47.0 s Finnish record and won silver behind the Russians Ardalion Ignatiev, who became European Champion in 46.6 s. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 were close behind the top four in the 400 -meter final. It won the American Charles Jenkins in 46.7 s before Karl -Friedrich Haas of the Federal Republic of Germany in 46.8 s behind Ignatiev and brightest were in 47.0 s after the goal judge either of them looked forward, had the photo finish to decide. Voitto Hellsten was 1.69 m and weighed 64 kg in his playing days. From 1962 to 1970 he was a member of the Finnish Parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland.
