Geography and Nature
Geographical location
The Wolski rayon is located in the northern part of the Saratov Oblast, about 150 kilometers northeast of the city of Saratov. The Raion is located on the western bank of the Volga River, below the Saratov Reservoir. Influenced Rajon is due to its location on the edge of the Volga plate and you resulting slope.

The Rajon is bounded on the east by the Volga River, which flows out here from the Saratov reservoir. Within the city Volsk the small river flows Malykowka ( Малыковки ) into the Volga.
Flora and Fauna
Flora
The Rajon is characterized by its location on the slopes of the ridge of the Volga plate. Due to its location and the difficult accessibility of the region of Rajon is one of the most forested areas in the Saratov Oblast.
Fauna
Through the extensive forests, the Volga, with its many islands below the dam lake and the smaller rivers and streams that flow from the ridge to the Volga, the wildlife is especially in Wolski rajon extremely rich in species. In the woods one can find mainly different Elcharten, wild boars and hares. To larger colonies have settled marmots on the rivers. The bird is mainly found various chicken bird species such as the capercaillie and other Gamebird and partridges.

The Rajon divided into einr municipalities with the city Volsk and an urban-type settlement and 14 rural municipalities with a total of 62 villages. The largest settlements (as of 2006) within the raion are:

- Baranovka ( Барановка ) 1,247 inhabitants
- Werchnja Tschernawka ( Верхняя Чернавка ) 1,100 inhabitants
- Nischnja Tschernawka ( Нижняя Чернавка ) 1,078 inhabitants
The " closed city " Schichany is enclosed by Rajon, but forms a separate urban district.
Economy and infrastructure
Economy
In Rajon various natural occurrences are from which building materials are recovered. In particular, the cement industry has settled here with several small businesses.
The agriculture focuses on the cultivation of cereals, sunflower and various vegetables.
Traffic
Due to the strong slope at the edge of the Volga plate the road layout in many parts of the Rajons is difficult with strong inclinations and tight corners.

Education
In Rajon there are five educational schools, a medical school, a military school, and eight schools in the fields of art and music.
