Geography

Geographical Location

Waakirchen is on the Seitenmoränenzug between former Isar and Tegernsee glaciers. Districts are Hauserdörfl, Krottenthal, Marie Stone, Piesenkam, Riedern, Schaftlach and Waakirchen and numerous hamlets and wastelands.

The village Waakirchen located on the B 472 between Bad Tölz (8 km) and Mies Bach ( 12 km). After wooden churches and the Federal Highway 8 is 16 km, Tegernsee, just 5 km and in the City of Munich 48 km. In the district Schaftlach a rail connection to the railway wooden church Lenggries and the railway line Schaftlach -Tegernsee exists. The sections are traversed by Bayerische Oberland Bahn. Trains run from Schaftlach of the hour to wooden churches, Munich, Lenggries and Tegernsee.

In the field of community Waakirchen run the Rinnebach and Festenbach.

History

Waakirchen was in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria in 1818 an independent political community.

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, incorporated the community Schaftlach in the course of municipal reform.

At the last municipal election held on 2 March 2008 accounted for a total of 20 seats 9 on the FWG, 7 on the CSU and 4 on the SPD. Was elected mayor in a runoff Josef Hartl ( FWG ).

The coat of arms description reads: "Under a silver shield head, in two crossed with the green stems Seeblätter, blue crossed a golden morning star and a gold miner hammer. "

The flag of the municipality is green - yellow with the municipal coat of arms in the middle.

Culture and sights

Structures

Is the Oberlander monument at the junction of the Tegernsee road in the B 472. This on August 20, 1905 in the presence S.K.H. Prince Ludwig of Bavaria inaugurated monument commemorates the fallen Sendlinger Mordweihnacht in December 1705. The lion with a spear comes from Hyginus Kiene, the four reliefs on the pedestal (scenes from the Sendlinger Mordweihnacht ) was created by the Munich sculptor Anton Kaindl.

In the Holy Cross Church in Schaftlach the shaft Lacher Cross, one of the oldest monumental crucifixes hanging over all. In a restoration, it was found that the cross can be traced to about 970. It is believed that it comes from the Tegernsee monastery.
