Wall rock is a city in the east of the Upper Franconian district Kronach in Bavaria. It is the center of the Upper Rodachtal region and is mainly known for rafting. Wall rock is a nationally recognized resort.

Geography

Geographical location

Wall rock is part of the planning region of Upper Franconia-West and is located in the Franconian Forest nature park in the valley of the Wild Unterrodach. The highest elevation is the Geuserberg with 708 m.

Climate

The territory of Wall rock is climatically in the transition zone between upland and tinted continental climate. The temperature differences are due to the high proportion of forest attenuated ( about 80%).

History

In 1126, Wall rock was first documented as " Ilowa ". The name " rock forest " was held in 1248, first use (see also noble forest rock). Wall rock in present-day administrative region of Upper Franconia belonged to the Bishopric of Bamberg. With the Imperial Diet of 1803 the city became part of Bavaria. Since 1954, Wall rock is city.

Religions

Wall rock is almost exclusively dominated Catholic. In the urban area there are four Catholic churches. The Protestant parish Unterrodach -Wall rock maintains in Wall rock a prayer room for evangelical Christians.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1971, until then independent municipality New Green was incorporated with the -added on April 1, 1951 part of the former municipality Wolfersgrün. On January 1, 1972, added Schnaid. Wolfersgrün and a part of the community Geuser followed on 1 July 1972.

Tourism

From May to September each year, the nationally known raft trips on the Wild Unterrodach instead, which come on the weekends between 500 and 1,000 guests. The Wall Felser Kirchweih the end of July the night torch raft trip Unterrodach is in flames performed with thousands of visitors. Economy

The economy is dominated by the timber industry. In wall rock, there are four major sawmills. In addition to several mid-market there are mainly small and medium-sized craft and service companies. The U.S. company PPG Industries maintains a permanent establishment in Wall rock.

Traffic

Wall rock is accessible from all standard in east-west direction from the busy main road 173. While the main road for decades led by the city core and in particular developed the heavy traffic in the wake of German unification to a massive exposure of the population in the narrow valley floor, a bypass was built with great technical effort in the years 2001 to 2004. The nearest links to the Federal Highway 9 is approximately 20 kilometers away.

The train connection via the nearby train station in the district Erlabrück Wall rock at the Unterrodach rollercoaster is not for passenger transport since May 30, 1976. The freight on this route was discontinued in 1989.

Regular bus services in the transport system can be to Kronach ( DB Bahn Frankenbus ) and long-distance transport to Berlin ( Berlin Linien Bus).
