Walzbachtal is a municipality with about 9000 inhabitants in the district of Karlsruhe in the north- west of Baden- Württemberg.

Geography

Location and natural space

The municipality is located in Walzbachtal Kraichgau. Name factor was the current flowing through the municipality Walzenbach. This transports - how many other rivers that come from Kraichgau - large amounts of sediment.

The municipal area extends over 3672 hectares. Of these, 10.8 per cent of settlement and traffic area, 58.5 percent is used for agriculture and 30 percent are forested.

The nearest large towns are Karlsruhe ( West), Bretten ( East), Bruchsal (north) and Pforzheim (south).

Community structure

The community Walzbachtal consists of the two former municipalities Jöhlingen ( 5,336 inhabitants), with the hamlet Binsheim and Wössingen ( 3,781 inhabitants). In the territory of the former municipality Jöhlingen are the waste places Binsheim, Neselingen and Buwertheim. In the territory of the former municipality Wössingen is the deserted village Saulingen.

Neighboring municipalities are Weingarten ( Baden ), King -Stein, nacelle Home, Bretten, Bruchsal and Pfinztal.

History

Both districts witness with a name ending in -ingen a settlement beginning in the Merovingian period.

Wössingen

Wössingen was first mentioned in a document from the year 1024 as Wesingcheimero, but there are since the discovery of the Roman cellar in the Roman road named after him in 1966, the evidence of human habitation around 200/300 AD - this is issued in Badische Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe.

The notation has, since its first mention in the course of the centuries frequently changed: 1150 Wesingung, 1161 Vesingen, 1287 Wesingin, 1310 Wesel Willingen, 1314 Wesingen 1509 Wessingen, 1512 Weszingen, 1678 Wossingen (including water rings ), since 1821 Wössingen. In 1770 the Margrave of Baden -Durlach bought from the Bishopric of Speyer Wössingen.

In Wössingen were the castle and the castle Oberwössingen Unterwössingen, two water locks.

Jöhlingen

Jöhlingen (then Johannington ) came to 650 at the high church of Speyer. Excavation finds from the Church of St. Martin in Jöhlingen also provided the evidence of an early church of the 7th century. By Otto the Great Johannington came to 945 to Count Conrad the Red. His great-grandson of Emperor Conrad II gave the town in 1024 the Bishopric of Speyer. In 1803, also was Jöhlingen Baden. In Jöhlingen there is also a Jewish cemetery.

Walzbachtal

On January 1, 1971, and Jöhlingen Wössingen merged to community Walzbachtal. 1995 Walzbachtal was awarded the State Environmental Award.

Religions

While Wössingen in the Reformation was evangelical, Jöhlingen remained Roman Catholic by belonging to the Bishopric of Speyer. Today, the religious life is wide. In addition to evangelical parishes in both sub- types and a resident of Jöhlingen Roman Catholic community, the New Apostolic Church, the pietistic Liebenzeller community and since 1700 a Mennonite community are represented on the site.

The council has 18 seats. Since the local elections of 2009, the municipal council is composed as follows:

Mayor

Mayor of Walzbachtal is Karl -Heinz Burgey. He was elected on 6 May 2003 to eight years. In 2011 he was elected for another eight years.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: In split- front plate in red a golden acorn between two golden oak leaves, back in blue half polished silver cross at the gap.

It was approved in 1972. The acorn is from the old coat of arms of Jöhlingen, the silver cross was depicted on the coat of arms of both districts, reminiscent of the Bishopric of Speyer.

Partnerships

Walzbachtal maintains since 1993 in partnership relations with the Hungarian community Bácsbokod.

Culture and sights

Structures

In the district Wössingen we find the evangelical church by Friedrich Weinbrenner. Sexy she is at the upper end of a long flight of stairs, so also dominant in settlement body. Typically, the steeple strives forcefully from the front of the nave in the air. The Wössinger Weinbrenner church was built the way it had several Weinbrenner churches should be. They shall run from the main portal of the church going straight down the stairs, it is sometime a direct route from the front door of the rectory. This is one of the greatest features of this church. As a half-timbered house, the Old Town Hall has been preserved among others.

In the district Wössingen is a Frankish house dating from the 18th century.

In the district Jöhlingen is the Speyer yard. Speyer yard is the only fully preserved Frankish courtyard (so-called Dreiseithof ) Walzbachtals from the year 1577. 1983-87 he was rehabilitated by the community and restored in its original type. Speyer courtyard houses the local library and is the seat of the local Administrator.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Walzbachtal is located on the Kraichgaubahn (Karlsruhe, Heilbronn), the day runs on the S4 of the Karlsruhe Transport Association (CDV ) in 20-40 minutes.

Both Jöhlingen and Wössingen are on the main road 293 ( Heilbronn- Pfinztal ), which performs as a ring road at Wössingen past, but by Jöhlingen through since 1978. Jöhlingen and Bergshausen (municipality Pfinztal ) no longer argue for the construction of a common bypass.

Before the town hall in Wössingen are two carsharing vehicles as well as in Jöhlingen at the railway station Opel Corsa (May 2013) of Stadtmobil ready for use.

Public institutions

Administrative center of the municipality is Wössingen, but there are in Jöhlingen an administrative body. Walzbachtal has many gemeindeigene Banquet Facilities, such as Böhnlichhalle, Heinrich Wagner Hall, Wössinger yard and Speyer yard.

Education

In Wössingen there is a primary school, in Jöhlingen an elementary and junior high school work. There are also two communal and each one Roman Catholic and Protestant kindergarten. In both districts, there is a library and offices of the folk high school Walzbachtal.
