Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis

Wendy Tilby ( born March 28, 1960 in Edmonton, Canada ) is a Canadian animation filmmaker.

Life

Tilby studied fine arts and literature at the University of Victoria and subsequently animation and film at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, where she met Amanda Forbis. Tilby graduated in 1986 from the animated movie Tables of content, which has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix de Montreal at the Montreal World Film Festival and the award for the best debut film at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. In 1987 Tilby went to the National Film Board of Canada and resulted in her first NFB film director strings. Among the numerous awards the short animated film and an Oscar nomination in the category was Best Animated Short Film.

From 1995 she devoted herself with Amanda Forbis the first joint short animated film When the Day Breaks, which premiered experienced in 1999. When the Day Breaks received an Academy Award nomination and won the 1999 Cannes Palme d'Or for Best Short Film. With Amanda Forbis Tilby created in the aftermath of different advertising animated films, including for United Airlines ( The Meeting, The Interview ). Following the publication of When the Day Breaks Tilby and Forbis began also working on the second joint short animated film Wild Life, which has continued over the years. For the work on the film both moved from Montreal to Calgary. Wildlife was performed first time in 2011 and received as was the first collaboration for an Oscar nomination. In addition, the film for a Annie Award and a Genie Award nominated.

Tilby passes with Forbis regular workshops to animation issues. She was also at Concordia University in Montreal, Lecturer in Animation and taught from 1999 to 2001 as a guest lecturer at Harvard University.
