Weser Depression

North of the Porta Westfalica the Weser no longer flows through a valley, but by the broad Weser valley, consisting of floodplain and terrace surfaces.

Some of these lowlands is accompanied by Geest back. From long fronds up to the Lesum it is separated by a narrow dune ridges of the Wümme lowland, on which lie the town of Achim and the older parts of the city of Bremen. In some places, such as south of the Allermündung or in Bremen- Huchting the Weser valley turns into bog and marsh without clear demarcation. The southern part of the Weser valley is one of North Rhine -Westphalia with the towns of Minden and Peter Hagen. For the latter includes Westphalia northernmost Weserort Schlüsselburg. To the north, passed the Weser in Lower Saxony Stolzenau.

Below Hoya's Weser reached the light coming from the southeast Breslau -Magdeburg - Bremen glacial valley. According to its north west direction gives way to the edge of the Geest back to the west and the Weser valley widens to a width of about twenty kilometers. There is also breaking landscapes. By Achim to Bremen -Blumenthal width measures about ten kilometers. In the wide portions of the lowlands of the soil is not anywhere in river sediments or peat, but some stretches is also sandy. These sandy areas on valley level are also referred to as Vorgeest, but are separated by a marshy strip from rising Geestrand. The largest are the Schwarmer Heath and the Thedinghauser Vorgeest. Downstream from Bremen extends wesernah the marshlands of Stedingen. From northwestern Geestrand it is separated by a broad, now widely cultivated peat strips.

The eastern edge of the Weser valley is of the Allermündung at Verden and Bremen- Rönnebeck less far from the river. In Bremen, south of the Lesum separates the dune Bremer Weser valley of the Wümme lowlands. North of the Lesum forms the Easter Holzer Geest at Vegesack a steep bank.

In the northern part of the Weser valley merges into the coastal marshes. Northwest of the Hunte mouth there is no natural elevation between the Weser and Jade Bay. The sea level this consists of Urban land and Butjadingen is between 0.8 meters below sea level and 1.2 meters above sea level ( a position at the "neck" of the Jade Bay 2 meters). A ridge of there is only beyond the Jade Bay, the Frisian Wehde. On the east side of the Lower Weser deviates north of New Churches of the edge of the Easter Holzer Geest six to ten miles from the river from. The marshland is called Easter Stade here.
